Eceni Agility Spaniels

Update 30/6/11

The Kennel Club spun two of the names we had chosen as being too close to existing kennel names, so we have now:

Fingal = Eceni Solar Wind
Gigha = Eceni Paper Moon
Ruari = Eceni Sun Dance
Isla = Eceni Moondance
Seamus = Eceni Firestorm
Fergus = Eceni Summer Hail

Looks as if Isla and Fergus, and perhaps Fingal will go roan:

If you look very carefully, you can see the small black rim to the foot pad that (apparently) designates a future roan – which should look very spectacular.  The blackening of the nose leather is another hint in the right direction – see below

The red/white partis have a 50% chance of colouring up to roan. We’ll know in a few days when their pads begin to colour out

pictures below, but more on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.230341100320694.63368.100000344163681

Fingal – first out and so easiest to take pictures of while she was pre-occupied with the rest coming out

Gigha – next out  – going to be a stunning lemon girl

Ruari – red boy – going to be a rich, rich copper colour, I think

and then the three last ones – Isla on the left, Seamus on top and Fergus on the right (With Ruari in on the act bottom centre of the pile of four)

This page is for details of Abigail (aka Risingmist Opal at Eceni) and her litter, due 24.6.11 by Bobby, aka FTW Whaupley Goldengroves Gripper

You’ll find full details of him on the Whaupley website, meanwhile, see images of him below:

Contact me here if you’re interested in a pup.

He’s lemon and Abs is red and white – solid is dominant to not-solid (though he carries roan) and lemon is recessive to everything so we’re expecting red or lemon pups in either solid or roan with a small chance of parti-colour. He. throws the most stunning pups – ‘Finn’ and ‘Pepper’ are two black roans by him – see below: (all images by Nick Ridley, whose book ‘Spaniels’ is a must-have for all who are interested in working cockers)

Abigail – what can we say? She’s the perfect house dog and a pretty good agility competitor. She’s hampered by my newness to it all, but we did win first time out (did I mention?). It was only Gamblers and it was UKA, but it wasn’t an elimination, which surprised everyone, particularly me. She came into season 3 days later and effectively halted our winning streak – or at least, our competition streak, but we’re having pups to make up for it.

She is small, fit and has excellent conformation: she’s the small-build type of cocker with a close coat and small ears. She’s biddable with a high, but controllable work drive. She’s immensely good natured with dogs, cats, chicken and people, particularly small people. She’s free by parentage of PRA and FN, has a clear eye certificate with gonioscopy, and has a hip score of 5:6. She’s by parents who both compete at flyball, and is line bred to Field Trial Champion Chyknell Gold Star (by FT Ch Danderw Druid, out of FT Ch Chyknell Jessica. Druid is by Mallowdale Rackatear), but not too closely – her Coefficient of Inbreeding over 3 generations works out at less than 2.5%

Pups will be: clear by parentage of PRA, and unaffected by FN. They’ll have a Coefficient of Inbreeding of 1.7% over 6 generations and will carry clear lines to Whaupley Riever and through him to Rigfoot Teal, Regulusknowe Gold of Maesydderwen and Wernffrwd Kathleen on the sire side, plus lines to Chycknell Gold Star, Druid and Rackatear and Larford Cateran and Wernffwrd Ammwyl on the damside. Bobby hasn’t been hip scored, but I’ve seen results for many of his progeny, particularly those that are doing well in Scandinavia, and they’re scoring ‘A’s so I am satisfied that he throws good hips.

The pups will be biosensor reared, have their dew claws removed but their tails will not be docked. They’ll be vaccinated, socialised with a full range of people plus the cat, crate trained and beginning recall and clicker conditioning. They’ll begin the proprioceptive stimulation that is so necessary for full, extensive neuronal development.

We feed a raw food diet, but pups will be reared on a mix of raw and kibble so that they’re used to both and can take a variety of food.

All round, they’ll trainable, biddable, sensible, sensitive dogs, suitable for active, rural homes, for dog sports or for field work.
